Commander for the New Guinea Islands Region, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Perou N’Dranou presented books worth K1,000.00 to the Buyang Primary School in Manus Province on Friday February 24.

The presentation was made as part of activities to commemorate the 2nd death anniversary of Papua New Guinea’s founding Prime Minister, the Late Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare.

ACP N’Dranou said part of the Police and Community Engagement was to work among the communities to create a good working relationship for better policing.

“I always believe in community engagements because this is the only way to understand our communities and to see how we can all work together to make our communities safe and secure.

“One of the things I’ve realized is that if we want to change this country we have to invest in our young generation and encourage good behaviors while they are still under our care. As parents and leaders, we play an important role in the good nurturing and upbringing of these children,” ACP N’Dranou said.

He encouraged parents to mould and shape their children well at home before sending them to school for the teachers’ inputs and not to depend entirely on the teachers.

He said children are easily influenced by other children in schools where they start learning and getting involved in the wrong things which most likely affects their future and sometimes leads to bigger law and order issues. Discipline should always begin at home, Mr Perou said.

The school headmistress, Ms Lucy N’drakum, thanked Mr N’Dranou and the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary on behalf of the school and parents. She said this is a great initiative and support and said the school staff will continue to work hard in nurturing good law-abiding citizens.

ACP N’Dranou also thanked the school staff, board members and the parents for organizing the event to mark the second anniversary of the Late Grand Chief Sir Michael.
